Overlanding in Albania

We organized our first overlanding trip to Albania in back in 2009. With a friendly group we visited the village of Thet in the mountains on roads that were still unpaved, where we were greeted by 10-year-old Franchesko, who offered us a place to stay at his parents' farm. The child already knew how to speak English and was able to attract travelers to stay overnight, thus helping his family. We continued our journey along narrow gravel roads on the mountain slopes along the river, often without the possibility of passing oncoming vehicles, although this was rare. There were many dangerous turns and monuments to those who had died on the roads, frequent rockfalls after rain or earthquakes. We visited famous cities and rested on wild beaches where driving along the coast was not yet prohibited. The country was hospitable and safe, we visited Albania numerous times years later. We will travel there again, because there is still more to see where we haven't been yet. We invite you to join us.
